Grab a free Gemini API key

Open Google AI Studio, sign in with the Google account you use for Gmail, click Create API key, and copy the string that starts with AIza. Google gives everyone a generous free tier that covers typical daily use at no cost.

Install InboxPro from the sidebar

Open Gmail. Click the Add-ons plus icon in the right sidebar. Find InboxPro, click install, and grant the permissions. Takes about thirty seconds.

Paste your key and finish setup

InboxPro shows a setup card the first time you open it. Paste your API key, enter your first name, pick your timezone, hit Complete Setup. You are ready to draft.

Where your key lives

Your Gemini API key is stored in Google’s PropertiesService inside your own Google account. I cannot read it. I do not receive a copy. If you uninstall InboxPro, your key goes with it.

What gets sent where

When you click Generate Draft, the email you are viewing is sent to Google Gemini, and a draft comes back. That call uses your API key, billed to your free Google tier. Nothing goes through my servers.
